Hottest New Releases of Summer 2022

by Kathleen Nolan

Who says it can’t be Hot Writer Summer and Hot Reader Summer at the same time? The last few months have been full of amazing new releases across all genres, and many more promising books are right on the horizon. Here are some of our favorite recent releases, and some books that we’re looking forward to this year!

The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager

Riley Sager, author of Final Girls and Survive the Night, is known for his ability to craft eerie yet thrilling stories, and The House Across the Lake is no exception. Looking to escape the public eye, a recently widowed actress Casey Fletcher flees to her peaceful family home on a lake in Vermont. After befriending Katherine who lives in the house across the lake (and a bit of spying from her window), Casey notices that her friend has a contentious and mysterious relationship with her husband. When Katherine suddenly goes missing, Casey is determined to discover the truth about what happened to her. Full of twists and suspense, this psychological thriller will have you on the edge of your seat.

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune

No one can deny that Carley Fortune’s debut novel Every Summer After has been the romance book of the summer. When 13-year-old Persephone’s parents buy a lakehouse to escape for the summer, she has no idea that the family next door will change her life forever. Brothers Sam and Charlie Florek, and their kickass mom, become like Percy’s second family— and Sam becomes a little bit more. Switching timelines between Sam and Percy’s summers at the lake, and their lives as adults as they reunite for the first time after their painful breakup, this friends-to-lovers story is the perfect way to finish up your summer reading list.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Released on July 5, 2022, Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow has already nestled itself in the hearts of hundreds of thousands of readers. The story follows Sam and Sadie, best friends and video game designers who find massive success together as students at Harvard. Over 30 years of their lives, the two characters grapple with fame, wealth, ambition, and their complicated relationship. With a dazzling review from the New York Times and an average of 4.4 stars on Goodreads, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a must-read in 2022.

Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Set to be released on August 29, Carrie Soto is Back is Taylor Jenkins Reid’s latest addition to her old-Hollywood books including Daisy Jones & The Six, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and Malibu Rising. You may recognize Carrie Soto from her appearance in Malibu Rising as the star tennis player who had an affair with Nina Riva’s husband. This time, Carrie takes center stage in her own story. Six years after retiring from her massively successful tennis career, Carrie decides to return for a final season to reclaim her record. However, coming back means training with her almost-lover Bowen Huntley. This highly anticipated release is sure to be one of the biggest books of the year.

Fairy Tale by Stephen King

Horror fans will be excited to know that Stephen King’s latest novel Fairy Tales will hit shelves on September 6, 2022. In true King fashion, the story follows a 17-year-old boy named Charlie with a tragic past and difficult home life taking care of his alcoholic father. When his mysterious neighbor passes away, Charlie is shocked to learn that he has inherited his house, a massive sum of gold, and a shed that makes strange noises— as if something is trying to escape. Within the shed, Charlie finds a portal to a parallel universe in peril. In this world, nothing is beyond imagination; people are exiled, forced to slay one another, and suffer at the hands of their cruel leader. In just a few weeks, find out how Charlie can exist in both his own world and this new one, and why his neighbor entrusted it to him.

It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover

BookTok darling Colleen Hoover surprised fans earlier this year by announcing It Starts With Us, a sequel to her bestselling book It Ends With Us. The new book will follow Lily and fan-favorite love interest Atlas as they settle into a complicated new life together. While It Ends With Us was written entirely from Lily’s perspective, It Starts With Us will have dual points of view from both Lily and Atlas. Hoover also revealed that readers will get to learn what Atlas was up to during the years that he went missing from Lily’s life. The prequel is set to be released on October 23, 2022!
